Spatial Pattern Evolution and Influencing Factors of Rural Settlements in Suburban Areas of Large Cities:A Case of Chengmen Town,Fuzhou
The survival of rural settlements in suburban areas of large cities faces the drastic impact of urbanization, and the evolution of their spatial patterns is often a microcosm of the rapid evolution of rural settlements in a region. This study, based on four periods of remote sensing image data in 1990,2000,2010 and 2020,analyzed the spatial evolution characteristics of rural settlements in Chengmen Town,a suburban area in Fuzhou. Then the influencing factors of the spatial evolution of rural settle-ments in Chengmen Town from 1990 to 2020 were discussed,by using GIS spatial analysis and landscape pattern analysis. The results show that,1)the scale evolution of rural settlements in Chengmen Town during the period of 30a shows a trend of increasing and then decreasing. In the early stage of the study, the scale of cultural characteristic villages and mixed development villages expanded faster, while the scale of cultural characteristic villages and traditional farming villages decreased more in the later stage.2)In the pre-study and mid-study period, the spatial pattern of village settlements shifted from strip distribution to multi-core distribution, and the scale of agglomeration increased. However,in the late-study period, the density of village settlements decreased significantly, the number of cores decreased, and the scale of agglomeration declined.3)The evolution of morphological characteristics of rural settle-ments is manifested in the change of patch shape from complexity to regularity,as well as the decrease and then increase of patch continuity. In the process of spatial evolution of settlements, the difference in the spreading degree index of mixed-development-type and traditional farming-type villages caused by the development of industry and the tendency of traffic has been increasing, while the change of the cul-tural characteristics-type villages has been relatively small.Policy, economic and traffic factors are the main influences on the spatial evolution of rural settlements in Chengmen Town, with the urban develop-ment policy of different periods being the main cause.Especially in the late stage of the study, the implementation of the"eastward expansion"development strategy in Fuzhou directly led to the rapid shrinkage of rural settlement space in Chengmen Town.
