The Application of Minirhizotron and Root Box Methods for the Study of Fine Root Longevity in Subtropical Forests
The estimation of fine root longevity are difficulty due to the limitations of research methods. Therefore,it is very important to find an accurate research method to study the fine root longevity. The minirhizotron method and root box method can continuously observe the dynamics of plant fine roots without disturbing the life process of fine roots. They are non-destructive observation methods and are widely used in field observation. This research combines the research examples of our team on fine root longevity of representative plants in the mid-subtropical zone through minirhizotron method and root box method. The main contents include the specific experimental design, image collection and analysis, data processing and other aspects of the two methods. The research is expected to provide reference for promoting the understanding of forest productivity and carbon source-sink control mechanism.
