Purification Ability of Formaldehyde and Related Physiological Mechanism by Common Indoor Green Plants in Subtropical Zone
In order to explore the purification effect and physiological mechanism of indoor green plants on different concentrations of formaldehyde,Spathiphyllum kochii,Dieffenbachia picta,Draceana arborea and Epipremnum pinniatum were selected as research objects. The glass box closed fumigation method was used to measure formaldehyde purification rate and physiological and biochemical indexes of four plants under formaldehyde stress by setting formaldehyde concentrations of 2.70,4.53 and 7.87 mg·m-3 with the same light intensity of 50 μmol·m-2·s-1,respectively.The results showed that,1)all four plants had the ability to purify formaldehyde, and the purification rate increased significantly with the rise of formaldehyde concentration.Under high formaldehyde concentration(7.87 mg·m-3),the purification ability of four plants was sorted as follows:D.arborea(219.81 ng·cm-2·h-1),E.pinniatum(197.29 ng·cm-2·h-1),S.kochii(173.47 ng·cm-2·h-1),D.picta(125.15 ng·cm-2·h-1).2)Formaldehyde purification rate of S.kochii was significantly positively correlated with the content of malondialdehyde(MDA),total organic acid and formaldehyde dehydrogenase(FADH).The purification rate of E.pinniatum was significantly negatively correlated with the content of MDA and soluble sugar. It is possible that the physiological indica-tors such as FADH and soluble sugar are closely related to the metabolic process of formaldehyde in plants.3)Using membership function method to analyze the contents of chlorophyll,MDA and soluble sugar in plants comprehensively. The formaldehyde resistance of S.kochii was the strongest, while that of D.picta was the weakest.
