Research on the Effect of Guide Vane Installation Angle and Solidity on the Aerodynamic Performance of Radial Turbine
In order to explore the effects of guide vane installation angle and solidity on the performance and flow losses of turbine, the variation rules of performance and aerodynamic characteristics of radial turbines with different guide vane opening degree and solidity were numerical simulated based on guide vane configuration in NASA science and technology report. The results show that the opening degree of the guide vane increases. The flow area of the guide vane and the flow rate increases. The attack angle at the inlet of the guide vane increases too, resulting in more local losses. With the decrease of the opening degree, the convergence of the guide vane increases, and the airflow has a larger expansion ratio and outlet velocity of the guide vane, which improves the power of the airflow at the inlet of the guide vane, and weakens the local loss of the passage vortex while the speed increases. Under the 89.8%~107%of design flow, the increase of guide vane solidity leads to the decrease of flow area and the increase of convergence of guide vane, and the flow rate significantly decreases while the flow achieves high expansion ratio and high velocity, and part of turbine output power is lost.
