During the Qixi Festival in Fuzhou, apart from traditional festival customs, people also share broad beans to form a connection, which is a regional folk custom in Fuzhou. The practice might originate from the Buddhist beans-giving for becoming attached. In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, people picked broad beans in the Qixi Festival to commemorate the governor Li Ba's efforts in advocating sericulture in Fu-zhou.There were rich connotations in the custom, such as forming a connection, commemorating and the de-sire for good luck. After the Qianlong period, the custom became even more popular than"Qiqiao"around Fuzhou.During the Republic of China, the custom integrated with"Qiqiao"in the Qixi Festival.By the 1970s and 1980s,the trend had gradually waned. However, this old custom of sharing broad beans in the Qixi Fes-tival is revitalized in the 21st century. In pursuit of harmony,Fuzhou"Neighborhood Festival"comes into being, which is directly derived from the traditional"Bonding Festival".
