Lu Xun's relationship with traditional Chinese operas was complex and profound. In the early days of the struggle between new and old cultural consciousness,he attached great importance to the inheritance of na-tional culture heritage and advocated the improvement and reform of traditional operas, abandoning the view of complete Westernization.During the Literary Revolution,in the face of the radical attacks on traditional operas by some cultural pioneers,Lu Xun did not blindly follow suit. His criticism focused on the literary and ideolog-ical aspects, paying attention to the cultural connotations and the dissemination of ideological awareness in oper-as.The story"Village Opera"presented Lu Xun's love for operas and the fairy-tale world of watching operas in his boyhood,as well as his two experiences of watching Peking Opera, which were full of twists and turns,in his middle age and the gloomy world hidden behind the emotional narration. He supported the development of modern dramas and stage plays and emphasized their social critical functions, while his criticism of Mei Lanfang was aimed at cultural phenomena such as Mei Lanfang's being an appendage to the powerful and noble and be-ing detached from the masses, rather than denying Peking Opera.Lu Xun viewed traditional operas from a ra-tional and unique perspective, providing profound and diverse thinking paths for the inheritance and develop-ment of operas in the modern context.
