A study on the carbon emissions of provinces and sectors in China
The panel data of 30 provinces in China(except Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and Xizang)from 2000 to 2021 are selected to analyse the impact of natural resource abundance on carbon emission intensity.Empirical results show that at the provincial level, natural resource abundance has a U-shaped relationship with carbon emission intensity, with significantly higher carbon intensity in the eastern and central regions, while it is not obvious in the western region. At the sectoral level, the impact of natural resource abundance on carbon emission intensity is heterogeneous, and there is a significant positive spatial correlation and spatial clustering effect between inter-provincial carbon emission intensities.Accordingly, recommendations were made to strengthen the economical use of resources and reduce the overdependence of economic development on natural resources;to develop new types of energy and optimize the energy structure;to improve sectoral energy utilization and extend the value chain of energy products;and to establish a mechanism for coordinating the interests of emission reduction and promote the common development of provinces.
