Agricultural insurance, agricultural technology progress and agricultural total factor productivity
Based the panel data from 30 provinces(excluding Hong Kong,Macau,Taiwan and Xizang)in China from 2010 to 2022,and drawing on the risk management theory and the technological synergy theory, this study constructs a Cobb-Douglas(C-D)production function model encompassing agricultural insurance, agricultural technology progress, and agricultural total factor productivity to empirically test the impact of agricultural insurance on agricultural total factor productivity as well as the mediating effect of agricultural technological progress. The findings show that agricultural insurance has a significant positive impact on agricultural total factor productivity.Agricultural technology progress plays a mediating role in the impact of agricultural insurance on agricultural total factor productivity. The factor allocation effect of agricultural insurance has a multi-dimensional role in suppressing the misallocation of labor factors and fertilizer factors. The impact of agricultural insurance on agricultural total factor productivity is significantly different in terms of agricultural technology innovation, agricultural technology promotion, and the total power of agricultural machinery.Based on these findings, the study suggests policy recommendations such as promoting the transfer of agricultural science and technology, optimizing the structure of agricultural factor inputs, and innovating agricultural insurance products in a targeted manner to improve agricultural total factor productivity.
