Social networks,non-agricultural employment and the level of rural governance
Based on the survey data collected by the EEPC project team of the National School of Development of Peking University in 2021,the multiple linear regression model and the mediating effect model were used to empirically analyze the impact of social networks on the level of rural governance,as well as the mediating role of non-agricultural employment between social networks and the level of rural governance. The results show that social networks have a significant positive impact on the level of rural governance.Of which, homogeneous social networks and heterogeneous social networks have a significant positive impact on the level of rural governance at the levels of 1%and 5%,respectively.Non-agricultural employment plays a mediating effect in the impact of social networks on the level of rural governance. The impact of social networks on the level of rural governance shows no significant differences in terms of the age of household heads, family size and family social status. However, the impact is greater in terms of the elderly group,large-family group and the group with high family social status. Therefore,it is proposed to further promote the interaction within villages to enhance village cohesion, broaden external information channels to accelerate resource mobility, and give full play to the main role of rural households to improve the participation rate of governance,so as to improve the level of rural governance.
