Releasing Scleroderma guani to control Monochamus alternatus
Scleroderma guani Xiao et Wu is an important natural enemy in biocontrolling Monochamus alternates Hope. S. guani was released to pine forest in Xiamen for controlling M. alternatus. The results showed that it was better to release S. guani on every tree or every other tree, whose corrected parasitism rates were 31.27% and 30.99% respectively. These were significantly higher than releasing S. guani at the center of pine forest, whose corrected parasitism rate was only 11.36%. The best time of releasing S. guani was June and July, when the temperature in forest was around 27 ℃ and M. altematus was larval instar, and the optimal parasitoid-host ratio was 3: 1. The high parasitism rate of releasing S. guani to 266 hm2 pine forest for biocontroUing M. alternatus proved that controlling larva of M. altematus by releasing S. guani to forest was feasible, in which the average parasitized rate was over 20%.
