TCM Hospitals and the Transmission of TCM Culture in Southeast Asia——Taking Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution (STCMI) before World War Ⅱ as an Example
Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution(STCMI)is one of the earliest TCM(traditional Chinese medicine)hospitals established in Singapore. It not only provides free medical consultation and treatment, but also strives to cultivate talents in TCM,to accelerate the localization and adaptation of TCM knowledge and technology, and to enhance its reputation and social influence. It has greatly promo-ted TCM culture transmission and development in Singapore, has stimulated mutual connection and coop-eration between domestic and overseas fellow villager or townsman, and has helped to coordinate the rela-tionship between Chinese society, local society, and colonial governments. These facts indicate that TCM culture is fully capable of obtaining opportunities for its overseas transmission and development, and this cultural transmission can push forward the integration and development of Chinese society.
