Spatial Writings of Southeast Asian Islands in Qiu Shuyuan's Chinese Poetry
Qiu Shuyuan,an overseas Chinese poet who lived in Southeast Asia,is skilled at "reprodu-cing" the cultural experience of island life in Southeast Asia. His Chinese poetry on Southeast Asian islands spans three spatial dimensions, highlighting the exotic scenery with tropical island characteristics through the description of natural spatial landscapes at the superficial level of material. He then observes the vastly different customs and habits between Southeast Asia and China, and displays the process of adaption and acceptance of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia on the basis of an impact response explana-tory model, which is a jump from material space to spiritual space. He finally makes an in-depth observa-tion of Southeast Asia, revealing some imperceptible practical problems arising from the existing social system and lifestyle in Southeast Asia, and thus analyzing the relationship between humans and nature in terms of the contradiction between seeking and being sought after. Qiu Shuyuan's care for Southeast Asia showcases a modern consciousness of a community with a shared future for mankind, with foresight that surpasses contemporaries.
