Exploratory Study on the Preparation of BaSO4 from BaCO3 Using Mirabilite Method
In order to improve the process of preparing BaSO4 by barium carbonate sulfuric acid method,BaSO4 was prepared by BaCO3 and Na2SO4.On the basis of thermodynamic calculations that this reaction can occur spontaneously below 100℃,the effects of reaction time,n value, reaction temperature, and NH4Cl salt effect on the phase composition of the prepared powder and the yield of BaSO4 were studied. The results showed that the lower the reaction temperature, the more favorable it was for this reaction to occur spontaneously. The longer the reaction time was and the larger the n value was,the higher the yield of BaSO4 was,but the highest yield was only 58%,the yield could be further improved through the NH4Cl salt effect. When the concentration of NH4Cl was 2.0 mol/L,n was 4.0,the reaction temperature was 30℃and the reaction time was 15 h,BaCO3 could be completely converted to BaSO4,the yield was 100%.Under these conditions, the BaSO4 grains exhibited a regular elliptical shape, with uniform size below 250 nm,which were prone to aggregation to form irregularly shaped bar or spherical aggregates.
