Driven by corpus,this study found that noun usage frequency of medical English abstracts is significantly higher than that of general English articles.Further analysis found that it is attributable to its frequent use of noun strings and nominalized words.Retrieving the keywords found that most noun key-words in medical English abstracts are closely related with medical topics.Investigating the usage of"pa-tients"and"study"revealed that there exist certain collocational patterns and semantic prosody between the two words and their co-occurrence words.
