The relationship between perceived social support and depression among international students in China:the chain mediating role of cross-cultural adaptation stress and coping style
To explore the relationship between perceived social support and depression among interna-tional students,and the chain mediating role of cross-cultural adaptation stress and coping style.A total of 280 international students were surveyed using the Perceived Social Support Scale,the Intercultural Ad-justment Stress Scale,the DASS-21 Depression Subscale,and the Coping Style Scale.Results:(1)Per-ceived social support had a significant direct effect on the depression of international students,with an effect size of-0.035(P<0.001);(2)Cross-cultural adaptation stress played a complete mediating role in the relationship between perceived social support and depression of international students,with an effect size of-0.147(P<0.001),and coping style played a partial mediating role in the relationship between perceived social support and depression of international students,with an effect size of 0.052(P<0.05);(3)Cross-cultural adaptation stress and positive coping style played a chain mediating role between per-ceived social support and depression of international students,with an effect size of-0.105(P<0.01).Accordingly,cross-cultural adaptation stress and coping style play a chain mediating role between the per-ception of social support and depression of international students.
