Zimmerman(2000) defines self-regulation as the beliefs and actions which are produced by students themselves in order to achieve their academic success and goals.College students, especially freshmen, are facing a large workload and a relatively flexible learning atmosphere compared with their experience in high school.Self-regulation seems to be an important component in acquiring academic achievement for college students. In other words, students who can control their learning processes effectively are characterized as self-regulated learners (Schunk & Zimmerman 1994).Many people believe that everyone could be self-regulated learner, but what differentiates them most is the quality of their self-regulation (as cited in Cohen 2012).Therefore,understanding the role of self-regulation and how to manage students' learning experiences in order to improve their self-regulation ability are significant.
