The"legal orientalism"defined by the American scholar Teemu Ruskola obscures the richer and more im-portant role of Chinese law in the history of disseminating Chinese laws to the West. From the perspective of disseminating Chinese laws to the West, his definition of"legal orientalism"is not only incomplete in content, but also has a strong ideo-logical component. The entire history of disseminating Chinese laws to the West shows that:First, the narrative framework of the Westernization of Chinese law since the modern era cannot fully locate Chinese law,Chinese law should be viewed in theentire historical process of disseminating Chinese laws to the West;Second,Chinese law did not spread historically only in East Asian Confucian cultural circles, but for a long time also participated in the construction of Western law;Third, the positive and negative examples of Chinese law in the process of disseminating Chinese laws to the West have constructed a proper paradigm of cross-cultural legal communication. For the fine traditional Chinese legal culture to expand its influ-ence to the world,it needs to emphasize and reflect on this history.
