Identification of Salt Tolerant Cucumber Varieties and the Effect of Salt Stress During Germination Stage on Salt Tolerance During Cucumber Seedling Stage
In order to clarify the differences in tolerance to NaCl stress among different cucumber varieties during the germination and seedling stages,24 common cucumber varieties are used as experimental subjects to study the response of main growth indicators during the germination and seedling stages to NaCl stress. At the same time, the effect of salt treatment during the germination stage on the salt tolerance of typical salt tolerant cucumber varieties during the seedling stage is explored. The results show that treatment with 120 mmol/L NaCl solution during the germination stage significantly inhibited the average radicle length of cucumber, with little effect on germination rate. However, there are significant differences in germination rate among different cucumber varieties. The treatment with 50 mmol/L NaCl solution significantly inhibited various indicators such as average root length, stem length, stem thickness, and fresh plant weight of cucumber seedlings.Based on the relative salt damage rate during the germination stage and the salt damage index during the seedling stage, salt tolerant cucumber varieties are identified as Shenqing 1 and Zhizun 187.The salt sensitive varieties are Jinyou 1,Jinyou 35,and Biyu, and the salt damage index during the seedling stage is all greater than 80.00%.Under salt treatment condition during the seedling stage, the 7-day survival rate of salt tolerant cucumber Shenqing 1 seedlings transplanted after salt treatment during the germination stage is 0,which is significantly lower than the 77.78%without salt stress treatment during the germination stage. The result indicates that cultivating strong seedlings is of great significance in improving the survival rate of cucumber seedlings in saline soil.
