Investigation on wettability of graphite/Ni plus Ti system
Wettability of ceramic/metal systems is important for joining of ceramics to metals and manufacturing of cermets. Wettability of graphite /liquid Ni with Ti additive system has been studied with sessile drop method. The contact angle was recorded and measured by high temperature photography. The microstructure and composition of the interfacial region were analyzed. For graphite/Ni system, the contact angle at 1340℃ in vacuum is 78°, which is hardly affected by the dwelling time. But, Ti additive above 40wt% remarkably improves the wettability of the system. Microstructural study reveals that inter-diffusion takes place and reaction layers form at the interfaces.
