Gender Narrative,Localized Revolution,and the Shanghai Context:An Inquiry on Xiao Hong's Market Street
This article attempts to re-incorporate a gender perspective into Xiao Hong's literary activities within the context of the interna-tional leftist movement.Market Street serves as a valuable case study for this exploration.In Market Street,Xiao Hong used keenly a fe-male narrative to retell a story about left-wing cultural struggles during the Manchukuo period,reaffirming internationalist ideals through a return to everyday life.By using such techniques,Xiao Hong not only countered the nationalist atmosphere within China but also estab-lished a new relational dynamic between Northeastern writers in Shanghai and the Chinese revolution.
