A Qualitative Study on the Functional Exercise Experience of Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis
Objective:To explore the functional exercise experience and influencing factors of patients with ankylosing spondylitis,and provide reference for formulating strategies to improve patient compliance with functional exercise.Methods:A purposive sampling method was used to select 16 patients with ankylosing spondylitis who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology from November 2020 to February 2021 for semi-structured interviews.The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's 7-step analysis method.Results:The patient's experience during functional exercise could be summarized into four themes:① Discovering many benefits(improving the condition;improving other bad habits;enhancing physical fitness);②Psychological problems interference(a sense of shame;weak willpower);③Lack of social support(lack of family support;lack of environmental support);④ Many confusions(uncertainty about illness;uncertainty about exercise effectiveness;insufficient understanding of exercise methods).Conclusion:Patient exercise compliance can be improved by strengthening patient education,carrying out peer education,providing psychological counseling,strengthening family support,calling for social support and improving facilities and venues.
