Clinical Effect of Polyethylene Glycol Eye Drops Combined with Meibomian Gland Massage in Patients with Dry Eye with Eyelid Gland Dysfunction after Phacoemulsification
Objective To explore the effect of polyethylene glycol eye drops and meibomian gland massage in patients with dry eye after phacoemulsification. Methods 80 patients with meibomian gland dysfunction type dry eye syndrome after cataract phacoemulsification who visited our hospital from May 2022 to September 2023 were selected as the study objects and divided into a control group and an observation group according to random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group used polyethylene glycol eyes drops alone, and the observation group was treated with continuous treatment for 2 months. The clinical efficacy, length of tear secretion and time of tear film rupture, corneal fluorescein staining score and dry eye severity were compared between the control group and the observation group. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of tear secretion, tear film rupture time, corneal fluorescence staining score, and Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)score(P>0.05).After treatment, the tear secretion length(15.27±3.05)mm every 5 minutes and tear film rupture time(13.23±2.27)s in the observation group were longer than those in the control group, the corneal fluorescence staining score(1.91±0.17)points and OSDI score(26.71±5.53)points were lower than those in the control group, and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Dry eye treatment after cataract phacoemulsification combined with eyelid gland massage can increase the amount of tear secretion, prolong the rupture time of tear film, increase the corneal health, and then effectively reduce the severity of dry eyes.
