Clinical Study on Percutaneous Kyphoplasty for the Treatment of Elderly Osteoporotic Compression High Thoracic Vertebral Fractures
Objective To investigate the effect of percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP)on elderly patients with osteoporotic compression high thoracic vertebral fractures. Methods 84 elderly patients with osteoporotic compression high thoracic vertebral fracture admitted to Tongshan District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xuzhou City from October 2017 to May 2023 were selected as the research subjects and were divided into a control group and an observation group according to random number table method, with 42 cases in each group. The control group underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty and the observation group underwent PKP.Two groups of postoperative followed up for 3 months. The perioperative indexes, pain degree, cone recovery, lumbar function, quality of life and complications were compared between the two groups. Results The operation time of the observation group was(38.96±3.58)min,longer than(33.21±2.49)min of the control group, and the injection volume of bone cement was(5.49±0.91)mL,greater than(3.20±0.68)mL of the control group, the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).After surgery, the pain Visual Analogue Scale Score and Oswestry Disability Index Score of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, the Cobb angle of the injured vertebra was lower than that of the control group, and the vertebral anterior margin height was higher than that of the control group, the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).After operation, the scores of all dimensions in the Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The incidence of complications in the observation group was 4.76%,lower than 21.43%in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Although PKP can prolong the operation time,it can reduce the pain of elderly patients with osteoporotic compression high thoracic vertebral fractures, promote the recovery of injured vertebra, improve the function of lumbar vertebra, improve the quality of life, and reduce the complications.
