The Effect of Tai Chi Training on the Mental Health and Cognitive Function of Elderly Patients with Mental Disorders
Objective To explore the effects of Tai Chi training on the mental health and cognitive function of elderly patients with mental disorders.Methods 158 elderly patients with mental disorders admitted to our hospital from May 2020 to March 2023 were selected as the research subjects.They were randomly divided into a control group and a resrarch group using a random number table method,with 79 cases in each group.The control group received routine drug treatment and psychological therapy,while the resrarch group received Tai Chi training on the basis of the control group.The BPRS score,mental health score,and cognitive function score of the two groups before and after intervention were observed and compared.Results Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference in the BPRS scores between the two groups(P>0.05);after intervention,the BPRS scores of the resrarch group were lower than those of the control group in terms of cognitive impairment,anxiety and depression,lack of vitality,hostility and suspicion,activation dimension scores,and total scores,with statistically significant differences between the groups(P<0.05).Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference in psychological health scores between the two groups(P>0.05);after intervention,the Self Rating Depression Scale and Self Rating Anxiety Scale scores of the resrarch group were lower than those of the control group,and there was a statistically significant difference between the groups(P<0.05).Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference in cognitive function scores between the two groups(P>0.05);after intervention,the resrarch group had higher scores in memory,orientation,attention and calculation,recall ability,and language ability than the control group,with statistically significant differences between the groups(P<0.05).Conclusion The introduction of Tai Chi training in the treatment of elderly patients with mental disorders has a significant effect,which can improve their mental health,clinical symptoms,enhance cognitive function,and has promotional significance.
