Observation on the Effect of Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation Internal Fixation Combined with Progressive Resistance Exercise on Promoting Hip Joint Function Recovery in Elderly Patients with Intertrochanteric Fractures of the Femur
Objective To explore the clinical effect of proximal femoral nail antirotation(PFNA) internal fixation combined with progressive resistance movement in promoting hip joint function recovery in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures (ITF) of the femur. Methods A total of 96 elderly ITF patients admitted to Yantai Port Hospital from January 2020 to October 2023 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group according to the random number table method, with 48 cases in each group. The control group received PFNA internal fixation treatment, while the observation group received progressive resistance exercise on this basis for 3 months. The hip joint function, hip muscle strength level, balance function, daily living ability, and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results After surgery, the Harris scores, hip flexion muscle strength, hip extensor muscle strength, Berg balance scale score, and Bathel index score of the observation group were all higher than those of the control group, and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).After surgery, the observation group had higher scores in the physiological, social, psychological, and environmental fields than the control group on the World Health Organization quality of Life-BREF scale, the differences between the groups were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion PFNA internal fixation combined with progressive resistance exercise can accelerate the recovery of hip joint function in elderly ITF patients, enhance the muscle strength around the hip joint, improve daily living ability, and enhance quality of life.
