Effect of Modified Huangqi Gegen Decoction Combined with Metformin on Blood Glucose Levels and Insulin Resistance in Elderly Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Objective To analyze the effect of modified Huangqi Gegen Decoction combined with metformin on elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 64 elderly T2DM patients admitted to Zibo Huajian Geriatric Hospital from August 2020 to August 2023 were selected as the research objects and were divided into a control group and an observation group according to random number table method,with 32 cases in each group.The control group was treated with metformin,and the observation group was treated with modified Huangqi Gegen Decoction on this basis of the control group.The clinical efficacy,blood glucose levels,blood lipid levels,insulin resistance and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.75%,which was higher than 71.88%of the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment,the levels of fasting blood glucose,2 h postprandial blood glucose,total cholesterol and triglyceride in the observation group were(6.25±0.89)mmol/L,(8.71±1.36)mmol/L,(5.38±0.95)mmol/L,(1.57±0.36)mmol/L,respectively,which were lower than(7.89±1.63)mmol/L,(11.58±2.01)mmol/L,(6.52±1.28)mmol/L,(2.46±0.50)mmol/L in the control group,and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P＜0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment,the fasting insulin level and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance in the observation group were(7.15±0.75)uU/mL and(4.02±0.46),respectively,which were lower than(8.96±1.53)uU/mL and(4.84±0.79)in the control group,and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P＜0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion Huangqi Gegen Decoction combined with metformin can reduce blood glucose and lipid levels and improve insulin resistance in elderly patients with T2DM without serious adverse reactions.
