Effect of Nerve Growth Factor Local Injection Combined with Metronidazole Tablets in Patients with Gum Swelling and Pain after Root Canal Treatment
Objective To observe the effect of nerve growth factor local injection combined with metronidazole tablets in patients with gum swelling and pain after root canal treatment. Methods A total of 86 patients with gingival swelling and pain after root canal treatment admitted to Lanshan District People's Hospital of Linyi City from May 2021 to November 2023 were selected as the research objects.According to the random number table method, they were divided into a control group and an observation group, with 43 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metronidazole tablets, and the observation group was treated with nerve growth factor local injection combined with metronidazole tablets,10 days as a course of treatment, both groups received continuous treatment for 2 courses. The clinical symptom scores, periodontal indexes, inflammatory factors in gingival crevicular fluid, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in clinical symptom scores, periodontal indexes, and inflam-matory factors in gingival crevicular fluid between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment, the symptom scores of periodontal soft tissue swelling, periroot pain and tooth loosening in the observation group were(0.68±0.33)points,(0.48±0.22)points and(0.49±0.21)points,respectively,which were lower than(1.05±0.43)points,(0.94±0.31)points and(0.87±0.32)points in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the depth of periodontal pocket in the observation group was(1.73±0.78)mm,which was shallower than(2.80±0.64)mm in the control group, and the sulcus bleeding index was(0.80±0.36)points,which was lower than(1.25±0.44)points in the control group, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein in gingival crevicular fluid of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Nerve growth factor local injection combined with metronidazole tablets in the treatment of gingival swelling and pain after root canal treatment can reduce gingival inflammation, improve clinical symptoms and periodontal health, and is safe.
