The evolution of David Chalmers'view of machine consciousness
The issue of"machine consciousness"has received much attention with the continuous breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and brain science.Through textual examination of Chalmers'view on machine consciousness, the evolution of his related ideas can be divided into three stages:the early period(1989-1994),the middle period(1995-2003)and the late period(2010 to present).Chalmers believed in the early days that machine consciousness had the potential to be realized, and computation was the core foundation for achieving this goal.In the middle period,he argued that the existence of the"hard problem"made machine consciousness challenging and required some forms of non-physical means to achieve it.In the later stage,he believes that the optimal path for implementing machine consciousness is progressive uploading, and the consequences of its development need to be treated with caution.
