International experiences and local construction of vocational rehabilitation models for people with mental disorders
In developed countries, there is a strong emphasis on the significance of employment within the field of mental rehabilitation.Employment is regarded as the best psychosocial rehabilitation measure.Because of it,vocational rehabilitation programs for people with mental disorders are highly recognized and have been implemented through several models.Sheltered workshops, transitional employment, and supported employment are three widely-utilized formats in developed countries. The three modes each have their own strengths and weaknesses, which can meet the different employment needs of mental rehabilitation patients with different disease courses.Although there are still few tailored occupational rehabilitation practices for mental rehabilitation patients in our country, there are important resources to promote their employment through supportive policies targeting a wide range of populations with disabilities including those with mental disorders. These policies mainly include centralized employment, proportional employment, and self-employment,which are important resources for promoting employment for mental rehabilitation patients.Transforming the traditional concept of"training before employment"in vocational rehabilitation in China, believing that mental rehabilitation patients can recover through employment, and providing various types of mental rehabilitation services in the community, integrating the three major vocational rehabilitation models of developed countries with the three types of employment support models in China,is conducive to constructing a vocational rehabilitation system that can provide continuous employment support for mental rehabilitation patients with fluctuating social functions.
