The spatial metaphor and identity pursuit in"Their Eyes wereWatching God"
Based on Lefebvre's spatial production theory,this paper discusses the intrinsic connection between Janie's black female identity and different spaces,including racial space,gender space in Their Eyes were Watching God.It is found that the intertwined racial space reflects the construction of Janie's racial identity from non-white,non-black,to white and black integration;The interactive gender space reveals the construction of Janie's gender identity from tolerating men,actively fighting against them to gaining independence and freedom from them;Decoding the different spatial metaphors in Their Eyes weree Watching God expands the research on the black female identity construction.
