The impact of medical service accessibility on the life satisfaction of the elderly
Enhancing life satisfaction among older adults is an important initiative for healthy aging.Using tracking data from the 2014 and 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS)of older adults,we explored the impact of healthcare accessibility on life satisfaction of older adults and its mechanism of action. The results show that healthcare service accessibility has a positive impact on life satisfaction of older adults, and both geographic accessibility and knowledge/service accessibility can significantly enhance life satisfaction of older adults.Improving health status is an important mechanism by which healthcare service accessibility enhances life satisfaction of older adults.Heterogeneity analyses show that health service accessibility has a greater impact on the life satisfaction of older persons with sufficient financial resources, family care and emotional support. Therefore, improving the life satisfaction of the elderly can be approached from the following aspects:vigorously promoting the accessibility and equalization of medical services, optimizing the allocation of medical resources,to strengthen the promotion and education of health care knowledge, and to improve the utilization rate of medical services. At the same time,we should accelerate the construction of friendly communities, fully leverage the functions of families and communities, encourage elderly people to actively participate in social activities, and improve their quality of life.
