Bibliometric analysis of domestic and foreign literature on safety of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salts based on CiteSpace
Objective Aims to analyze and summarize the key research trends, patterns, and distribution of safety studies on dehydroacetic acid(DHA)and its sodium salt over the past 40 years, both domestically and internationally. The findings are intended to promote the development of future safety research on DHA and its sodium salt in China while providing a reference for regulatory oversight. Methods By examining core journal articles related to DHA published between 1984 and 2024 in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)and Web of Science databases, this study employs methods such as keyword co-occurrence analysis, cluster analysis, keyword emergence time nodes. These approaches comprehensively investigate the current state of research, key areas of focus, and evolutionary trends regarding DHA and its sodium salt. Results International research hotspots have primarily focused on four areas:studies on the molecular and mechanism of action of DHA and its sodium salt;metabolism and health risk management;the development of international regulations and standards;and the expansion of new application fields. In contrast, research in China has placed more emphasis on safety and toxicological studies, residue limits and standards formulation, synergistic effects when combined with other preservatives, and environmental degradability. Conclusion Compared to international efforts, domestic research in China shows insufficient depth and intensity, with a disconnect between foundational safety studies and market regulatory practices.Moving forward,it is crucial to enhance collaboration among domestic and international stakeholders, broaden research scope, actively incorporate risk management studies, and strengthen post-market safety supervision of related products. These efforts will ensure the effective safety management of DHA and its sodium salt.
