Objective To explore the clinical significance of determining the changes on seium E-cad, SICAM-1 and IL-8 levels after operation in patients with esophageal cancer . Methods Serum IL-8 (with RIA) and serum E- cad, ICAM-1(with ELSA) levels were determined in 33 patients with esophageal cancer both before and after operation as well as in 35 normal healthy controls. Results Before operation the serum E- cad, ICAM-1 and IL-8 levels in the patients were significantly higher than those in the controls(P < 0.01). After operation far6 months serum E- cad, ICAM-1 and IL-8 levels showed no mare difference from the controls(P>0.05). Serum E- cad level was positively correlated with ICAM-1, IL-8 levels (r =0.6188,0.5012,P<0.01). Conclusion Changes of serum E- cad ICAM-land IL-8 levelsmight be of substantial prognostic value in patients with esophageal cancer.
