Clinical Significance of Determination of Changes on Serum IGF-Ⅱ, IL-6, IL-8 and Beta-Defensin-3 Levels After Treatment in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis
Objective To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum IGF- Ⅱ , IL-6, IL-8 and beta-defensin-3 levels both before and after treatment in patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods Serum IGF-Ⅱ , IL-6, IL-8(with RIA) and beta-defen-sin-3 (with ELISA) levels were determined in 33 patients with chronic periodontitis and 35 normal health controls. Results Before treatment, serum IGF-Ⅱ , TL6 and IL4S levels were significantly higher in the patients than those in controls (P<0.01). But serum beta-defensin-3 level was apparently lower than that in controls (P < 0.01). After treatment for 3 months those variable were about the same as in controls (P>0.05). Conclusion Serum IGF-Ⅱ, IL-6, IL-8 and beta-defensin-3 levels could take part in the pathogene-sis of chronic periodontitis in various ways and determination of these levels provides important clinical value.
