Objective To investigate the effect of clopidogrel on serum metalloproteinase(MMP) -2,3,9 levels in patients with unstable angina and its clinical efficacy. Methods 70 cases of patients with unstable angina were randomized divided into observed group and control group. All patients were given conventional treatment such as anti-platelet aggregation vasodilators, expanding blood vessel, lowering blood lipid, improving myocardial microcirculation. The observed group were given clopidogrel 7Smg, once daily for 4 weeks on this basis. Results Serum MMP-2,3,9 levels significantly decreased after 4 weeks of treatment(P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the decline in value in observed group proved more higher than that of control group (P<0.05) , the total efficiency in the observed group presented significantly higher than those in control group(x2 =5.29, P<0.05). Conclusion Clopidogrel in the therapy of unstable angina provides better clinical efficacy, and its mechanism of action may be related to significantly lowering of serum MMP-2, 3, 9 levels, and enhancing the stability of the plaque.
