Simultaneous determination of fluoride and five small molecular organic acids in water by ion chromatography
An ion chromatography method was established for simultaneous determination of fluoride and five small molecular organic acids including acrylic acid, formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid in water.Under the optimized experimental conditions, all the 6 analytes exhibited good linear relationships in the range of 0.05-5.00 mg/L,with the correlation coefficients greater than 0.9998.The limits of detection(LODs)of the target analytes were in the range of 0.2-1.5 μg/L.Among which,The LODs of fluoride and acrylic acid were 0.2 μg/L and 1.5 μg/L,respectively,both below 1/1000 of their limit values in drinking water.Using tip water as the substrate, spiking experiments were conducted at three concentration levels of 0.05,0.50 and 4.00 mg/L,the recovery rates were 93.4%-99.9%and the relative standard deviations(RSDs)were 0.12%-3.0%.The RSD of fluoride control sample in water was 0.11%,and 3 types of water, includingfinished water, tip water, and surface water, were measured by this method. This method solved the problem of interference from small molecular organic acids in fluoride determination using ion chromatography, and accurate determination of five small molecular organic acids could be achieved at the same time. This method had good application in the determination of fluoride and five small molecular organic acids in drinking water.
