Through literature review and data analysis,the development of mass sports has been sorted out and divided into four stages since the founding of the People's Republic of China.The background,cultural forms and achievements of the devel-opment of mass sports in the four stages were analyzed.Reflect on the development of mass sports in the past century was made from five aspects:the Party's leading role in mass sports needs to be further strengthened;The mass sports culture with a strong political dimension and social benefits has always been accompanied by the development of mass sports;Years of heavy compet-itive sports and light mass sports have led to unbalanced and insufficient development of mass sports;The reform of sports for all needs to promoted further;The contribution of the development of mass sports to society and economy needs to be further strengthened.
