Molecular Identification and Comprehensive Evaluation of Disease Resis-tance in New Released Sugarcane Variety, Qiantang 5
Disease resistance is one of the goals in sugarcane breeding program. Understanding the diseases resistance of new released varieties is significant for promotion of resistant varieties and effective utilization of disease genes to scientifically control sugarcane diseases. This study aimed to systematically identify and evaluate the disease resistance of new variety Qiantang 5 through symptomatic diagnosis, observation of pathogen morphology, RT-PCR and artificial inoculation by using Qiantang 3 as a reference. The results showed Qiantang 5 is immune to SCSMV, highly resistant to sugarcane brown streak, sugarcane eye spot, SCMV and SrMV and resistant to sugarcane smut as well. The present results provided powerful evidence for reasonable promotion and extensive application.
