The Research Progress on Molecular Regulation of Leaf Morphogenesis
Understanding the regulation of plant growth and its constituent organs is an important objective in biology. The development of leaves is an intriguing process, resulting from a complex interplay of a multitude of regulatory pathways. On the one hand, the process is so plastic that environmental factors can affect mature leaf size and leaf shape. On the other hand however, the development of plant leaves follows a common basic program that leaf primordia arises from groups of initial cells within the peripheral zone of the shoot apical meristem, then a series of cell begin to devise and differentiate, and develop into mature leaves, eventually. In the process of leaf development, each stage involves a variety of complex regulating factors, including transcriptional regulators, microRNAs,plant hormones, etc. And ultimately, the formation of a leaf shape and size is fixed. This paper mainly discussed these regulators in the context of leaf primordia, leaf polarity, leaf size and leaf shape.
