Study on Biological Characteristics of Seeds of Decaisnea insignis
In this paper, the Decaisnea insignis seeds collected from Hubei Shennongjia Forest Region were used as the object and their morphological characteristics, seed coat permeability and germination inhibitor were studied. The results showed that the average length, width and thickness of the seeds were 9.34 mm,6.60 mm,and 2.45 mm,respectively. The 1 000-seed weight was 84.18 g,and the average water content was 21.09%.The average water uptake of shelled seeds was 15.50%,and that of the hulled seeds was 35.10%,indicating that the shells could slow down the speed of water into the kernel. The viability ofDecaisnea insignis seeds stored in dry and wet sand at 4 ℃ was 100% by TTC (2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium) activity staining method. The germination detection of Brassica pekinensis seeds indicated that the germination inhibitor did not exsist in the shells of Decaisnea insignis seeds but in the kernel which caused seeds dormancy.
