Progress on Molecular Mechanism of Pollen Tube Oriented Ovule Growth in Angiosperms
Double fertilization is a unique reproductive mode of angiosperms in which the pollen tube passes through the style into the ovary and releases sperm cells in embryo sac,one sperm cell combines with the egg cell, while the other sperm cell combines with the central cell. The pollen tube guided growth is the precondition for the completion of the double fertilization process in angiosperms, which can ensure that sperm cells are accurately transported to the female gametophyte of the plant.Pollen tube guidance can be divided into two stages:sporophyte guidance and gametophyte guidance. In gametophyte guidance, the interaction between male and female gametophytes can precisely control the growth of pollen tube oriented ovules, but the specific mechanism of male and female gametophyte interaction remains to be studied. Therefore, this article will mainly use model plants such as A rabidopsis thaliana and Zea mays L.as the research object to introducing the molecular mechanism of male and female gametophytes in regulating the growth of pollen tubes to ovules and making a brief summary.
