Genetic Diversity Analysis and Comprehensive Evaluation of Phenotypic Traits of Eggplant Germplasm Resources
In this study, the diversity of 18 agronomic traits in 191 eggplant germplasm accessions was analyzed, followed by the correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis, which were performed to screen the excellent eggplant germplasm accessions,to determine the comprehensive evaluation indicators, and to improve the utilization efficiency of germplasm resources. The results showed that 191 eggplant germplasm re-sources had high genetic diversity, and the diversity index ranged from 0.506 to 2.045,with a mean value of 1.425,of which the genetic diversity of quantitative traits was higher than that of qualitative traits. In addition, the varia-tion coefficients of 18 agronomic traits varied from 14.47%to 55.94%with an average of 36.15%,indicating that these eggplant germplasm resources showed abundant genetic variations. Moreover, the correlation analysis showed that there was a strong correlation between the apparent color traits, especially for leaf vein color and fruit calyx color;and single fruit weight was positively correlated with leaf length and diameter, and fruit length and diameter. Then principal component analysis showed that the first seven principal components were obtained to explain the meaning of 18 traits, which accounted for 75.10%of the contribution rate.According to the affiliation function method, the comprehensive evaluation value(F value)of agronomic traits was calculated. The result sho-wed that the performance of the 10%accessions with the highest F values was significantly better than that of the 10%ac-cessions with the lowest F values in yield-related traits and fruit appearance-related traits.Based on the compre-hensive evaluation value, six germplasm accessions with high F values(F>0.700)were selected, which were likely to be used in eggplant breeding and production. The results of cluster analysis showed that 191 eggplant germplasm resources were divided into 4 groups at 5 euclidean distances.According to the mean and maximum F values of the four groups, the third group showed the best comprehensive performance, which could be potentially used as high-quality parental materials in selection of the yield and fruit appearance related traits for eggplant. The eggplant germplasm showed high degree of variation and rich diversity. The eggplant germplasm accessions with excellent agronomic traits were screened through comprehensive evaluation method, which can provide a reference for the efficient utilization of eggplant germplasm resources.
