Expression Analysis of SWEET Gene in Chinese Narcissus during Flower-ing and Bulb Expansion
SWEET transporter mediates the bidirectional transmembrane transport of monosaccharides and disac-charides through alternate transport mechanisms, and plays a key role in the distribution and utilization of sugars during plant growth and development. In this study, based on the transcriptome analysis of Narcissus tazetta var.chinensis, nine SWEET genes with relatively high expression in flower organs were obtained, and these NtSWEETs are distributed in four branches of SWEET family.During the flowering process of narcissus, the expression levels of NtSWEET1a,NtSWEET1b and NtSWEET4b genes in the perianth segments increased gradually with the open-ing expression of flowers, while no significant rules were observed for other genes.During flower bud differentia-tion,NtSWEET1a,NtSWEET1b and NtSWEET13 had high expression levels, and the expression levels in each group of bulbs increased gradually with flower bud differentiation.During the bulb expansion of narcissus,NtSWEET1a maintained a high expression level during the bulb expansion, and the expression level increased with the bulb expansion.Further, the functional complementarity experiments of yeast were used to analyze the trans-port functions of these SWEET proteins on glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose and sucrose. The results shows that NtSWEET1a could transport glucose and galactose, suggesting that NtSWEET1a played an important role in the transport of glucose, especially glucose and galactose, during the flowering, flower bud differentiation and bulb expansion.
