Difference of the DUS Testing Results of Cucumber Fruit Characteristics on Different Sowing Dates
In order to elucidate the influence of different sowing dates on the DUS testing results of cucumber fruit characteristics,12 different types of cucumber varieties were used as test materials, and the DUS testing characteristics of cucumber fruit on two different sowing dates were collected. The result shows that under the environmental conditions of high temperature, high humidity, and intense solar radiation, there are extent changes in several of 21 VG(visual assessment by a single observation of a group of plants or parts of plants)characteristics of fruit.Differences of VG characteristics primarily occur in glaucosity, distribution of dots, color of sarcocarp, shape, shape of calyx end, ground color of skin, and bloom on the fruit. In addition, there are significant differences in 5 MS(measurement of a number of individual plants or parts of plants)characteristics, especially in length of fruit and length of fruit neck.Since the water and fertilizer management is almost identical on these two sowing dates, discrepancies in these DUS testing characteristics may partly result from the different meteorological conditions. Thus, higher standards on environmental control are put forward for the DUS test conditions of varying sowing dates.Otherwise,it may affect the DUS test results and reduce the accuracy of the test report.
