Bioinformatics Analysis of Squalene Synthase from Four Medicinal Plants of Apiaceae
Squalene synthase(SQS)is a key rate limiting enzyme in triterpenoid biosynthesis pathway. In this study, bioinformatics software tools were used to predict and analyze physicchemical properties, subcellular local-ization,protein structure and phylogenetic relationship of seven SQS sequences from four Apiaceae medicinal plants. The results showed that SQS proteins were stable except that of Centella asiatica L..All SQS have obvious hydrophobic/hydrophobic regions, belonging to hydrophilic protein.SQS were mainly localized in the cytoskeleton and cytoplasm, and signal peptide were not detected. However, there were two transmembrane regions in the C-terminal.The secondary structure and functional domains were dominated by random coil and α-helix.The re-sult of phylogenetic analysis was also consistent with that of plant taxonomic relationship. These results provide a scientific basis for deep understanding of the relationship between structure and function of SQS,and its molecular evolution in Apiaceaae.
