The Effect of OsmiR156 on Root Growth Traits of Rice at the Tillering Stage
Rice root system and its physiologic characteristics are of great significance to rice products.OsmiR156 plays a vital role in rice plant type, yield and other traits, and the most obvious phenotypic feature was that the tiller number of overexpressed OsmiR156 was significantly increased. The morphological and physiological charac-teristics of root growth and development between OsmiR156 overexpressed rice and wild type from seedling stage to tillering stage were systematically compared. The results indicated that OsmiR156 can not only influence rice maximum length, weight, volume and other traits, but also influence the catalase and peroxidase activities of rice.Compared with the control,OsmiR156 overexpressed lines had shorter maximum root length, fewer root number, smaller volume and fresh weight per plant at seedling stage. However,at tillering stage, all of those root related indexes of OsmiR156 overexpressed lines were higher than those of that in control, and there were significant differe-nces in CAT and POD enzyme activities. These results indicated that OsmiR156 can affect root development of rice.
