Bulbils usually occur in the above-ground parts of some perennial herbaceous plants. They are special metamorphic buds or metamorphic stems with diverse morphology and structures, which can store nutrients and carry out asexual reproduction. This research focuses on the research progress in the types, origin, development and structures of plant bulbils,as well as the influencing factors, molecular mechanisms and in vitro induction of bulbil formation. The Study have found that plant bulbils can grow in various parts and have various colors.Plant bulbils originate from the formation and initiation of meristems at the implantation sites, which are regulated by various hormones, carbohydrates and environmental factors. The phenological phases, positions, stages, structures and yield of bulbil development vary from species to environment. At present, the researches on the molecular mechanism of bulbil formation are mostly focused on the screening of related genes and relative expression analy-sis.A variety of in vitro bulbil induction systems have been established, which will provide scientific basis for fur-ther research on the molecular mechanism and signal transduction of bulbil formation.
