Analyzing the Yield Combining Ability of Japonica Sterile Lines and Their Combinations Using the R Language's AMMI Model
The combing ability analysis provide basis for rational utilization of hybrid rice parents and selection of superior combinations. To study the combing ability of yield characteristics, five new japonica male steile lines and eight restorer lines were slected to bred fourty hybrid combinations based on 5×8 incomplete dialle cross de-sign by AMMI model of agricolae package on R language.ANOVA analysis by AMMI model showed that general combining ability(GCA)of male sterile lines reached the extremely significant difference level(P<0.01),and GCA of restorer lines and special combining ability(SCA)of hybrid combinations were significant(P<0.05).3684A,3686A and 31A of sterile lines,GR56,GR27 and JR352 of restorer lines had greater GCA variance. The AMMI model extracted two significant principal components,PC1 and PC2,from SCA,which accounted 58.5%and 33.6%variance of the interaction sum of squares, respectively. The SCA effects were estimated by using principal components analysis and classic way.The results of the two methods had only smaller difference which showed that the combinations such as 3684A×G3828,3768A×G3828,3686A×GR56,31A×GR27,3768A×JR352 and 3768A×GR184 had higher SCA effects. Therefore, the sum of products at PC land PC2 axis of parents can well present SCA effects of hybrid combinations.Furthermore, the parents and their interactions were really differences on yield effect in the AMMI1 biplot.According to the length and direction of PC1 and PC2 vectors on AMMI2 bi-plot,the interaction effect of sterile line and restorer line can be assessed. The positive strong interaction effect can be obtained only when the length of the score vector of the special combining ability effect of both parents is rela-tively large and the angle of the vector direction is relatively small.
