Transcriptome Analysis of the Formation of Flower Color in Star Anise(Illicium verum)
Flower color is one of the important traits of plants. The reason for the formation of the two different color flowers of Illicium verum has not yet been clarified. To explore the metabolic pathways of flower color for-mation,RNA Sequencing(RNA-Seq)technology has been used to analyze the gene expression patterns of pink-col-ored flower and red-colored flower provenances. The results showed 2 824 genes with significant differences in expression between the provenances of pink-colored flower and red-colored flower were observed, among which 1 352 were up-regulated genes and 1 472 were down-regulated genes.GO enrichment analysis showed that 51 pathways were annotated into 3 categories, and KEGG enrichment analysis annotated 5 categories which were composed of 130 pathways.Differential genes were significantly enriched in the biosynthesis of secondary metabo-lites and anthocyanin biology.A total of 8 differential genes and structural genes 4CL,CHI,DFR,3GT in the 4 an-thocyanin synthesis pathways were screened, and most of them were up-regulated,especially 3GT.3GT might be an important candidate gene that determines the darkening of the flower color in Illicium verum. In conclusion,we screened out the related differential genes between pink-colored flower and red-colored flower, especially genes related to anthocyanin biosynthesis, revealing that the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway is an important way to deepen the color of the flower in Illicium verum.
