Effects of Different Potassium Fertilizer Levels on Growth of Melon Seedlings and Substrate Characteristics
In order to explore the effect of potassium fertilizer application rate on the growth and substrate char-acteristics of melon seedlings, this study used a plug seedling method to determine the physical and chemical prop-erties of the substrate such as microbial content and alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen in the substrate with different con-centrations of potassium fertilizer, and the stem diameter, leaf area and other morphological indicators and physio-logical indicators such as chlorophyll content of melon seedlings. The results showed that proper amount of potas-sium fertilizer could improve the bulk density and porosity of substrate, and significantly increase the EC value and microbial content of substrate. With the increase of potassium fertilizer concentration, the contents of alka-li-hydrolyzable nitrogen and available phosphorus in seedling matrix decreased first and then increased, while the content of available potassium in seedling matrix increased;adding a certain amount of potassium fertilizer can significantly promote the growth of melon seedlings, under T2 treatment, the morphological indexes such as stem diameter and leaf area of melon seedlings were significantly better than other treatments, the chlorophyll content of leaves and the contents of nitrogen, potassium, calcium and magnesium in melon seedlings were the highest. In summary, the application of appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer can improve the physical and chemical properties of the substrate, promote the growth of melon seedlings and plant nutrient accumulation, and T2 treat-ment(potassium concentration of 0.70 g/L)is the best. This study provides a theoretical basis for rational fertiliza-tion and cultivation of high-quality and strong seedlings of melon during the growth and development period.
